NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

January 28, 2025 – Camel City Playhouse and the cast of The Seagull have made the difficult decision to postpone opening weekend for The Seagull in the interest of the safety of the patrons, cast, and volunteers. Opening night will now beThursday, February 5th, with remaining performances at 7pm Friday, February 6th; 7pm Saturday, February 7th; and 2pm Sunday, February 8th. We look forward to seeing you there! This weekend’s planned staged reading of Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw from Spilled Ink Staged Readings has also been postponed and will be presented at a later date to be determined.

August 25, 2025 – Due to a scheduling conflict, Spilled Ink Staged Readings will be unable to present the planned reading of the Planes, Trains & Automobiles screenplay in November. We are pleased, however, to announce that as a replacement reading in November, we will instead be presenting a reading of Campheads, an original screenplay by Jeff Hammer.

Campheads is a heartfelt and witty look at the last weekend of summer for a tight-knit group of counselors at Camp Anokijig. For this crew of friends, who call themselves “Campheads,” this isn’t just the end of another season—it’s the end of an era. As they plan a bachelor party for their friend Quin, the counselors are forced to confront the impending realities of adulthood, college, and the lives that await them outside their cherished summer home. The screenplay explores the powerful, often complicated bonds of found family and the bittersweet transition from youth to responsibility. Filled with 90s nostalgia, Campheads captures the feeling of that one last perfect summer before everything changes.

The rescheduled reading will take place on Sunday, November 9th at 6pm.

May 12, 2025 – In time of transition at Camel City Playhouse, while we are sad to see the departure of Chris Cohen as Artistic Director, we are excited to be evolving with a new person at the creative helm. The Board set out to find someone who was immersed in the theatre world in general and well versed with community theatre in the Triad in particular. This person needed to be well-versed in the theatre community with an excellent reputation, someone with a clear understanding of CCP’s mission, and the ability to build upon the momentum CCP has established over the past four years.

Therefore, we are very excited to announce and welcome Ashley Pearson as our new Artistic Director! Ashley is an actor/singer/director and proud Latina who has been heavily involved in theatre in the Triad since 2009, covering almost every theatre from Yadkinville to Mebane. She served as a founding board member for Studio 1 Community Theatre in Burlington, and in 2019 she began working as the Theatre Teacher/Director at Salem Academy and College.

Take the time to read Ashley’s bio, and please join the Board in extending a warm welcome to her as she finds a new spotlight as the Artistic Director of Camel City Playhouse!
