We’d like to introduce you to Christopher Cohen, the Artistic Director of Camel City Playhouse. The man behind the curtain. Chris was introduced to Theatre at the University of Vermont. where he double majored in Theatre and English and a Minor in psychology. His concentration was focused on Directing, Acting and Scenic design. After College he gave Hollywood a try, gracing his presence on sets from “How I met your Mother”, CSI Miami, Numbers, 24, and many others. Returning to NYC, he was accepted into the Alec Baldwin Workshop (All current history aside, studying with this man was enlightening). From there he was accepted into the Circle in the Square Theatre program in Manhattan, where for 2 years he was locked in the basement of a skyscraper learning about himself, diving into his past memories and challenging himself to use all aspects of his life to inform his work. From there he immediately began Silent Street Production, a off-off broadway theatre company where he worked as the Artistic director. Directing such productions as “CLOSER” by Patrick Marber, AUTOBAHN by Neil Labute and Titus Andronicus by William Shakespeare. His life brought him to the great city of Boston, MA, where he acted with many of the local companies and helped create Wax Wing Productions, another small successful Community Theatre. After many years of traveling and study, he found himself in North Carolina. Winston Salem was the one place he saw himself growing roots. He has since married his beautiful wife Caitlin and is the proud father of his two sons. As one of the founding members of Camel City Playhouse, he has worked tirelessly to instill all of the these lessons and ideals he has learned over the years into this wonderful theatre company. He has directed all three years of EVIL DEAD:The Musical as well as built every set for the last two years and even the stage itself. Chris believes that Theatre should be a home for the artist. A safe place to create and destroy and take Risks! Theatre is about Life and Love and chaos and heartbreak and story telling and that’s what he hopes this company will bring with each production. To grow into the future and be a cornerstone in this beautiful community of Artists.
